Check Out Dorothy Alling Library In January!

Last week Ms. Jill, the town librarian visited Kindergarten.  She delivered our new library cards and filled us in on some rely fun and interesting library events happening in January! Click here for the website and read below the exciting events happening in January and they are all free!

Read about what is happening!


Read to a Dog! Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30 pm. Starts January 13.Bring a book and share a story with one of our friendly trained therapy dogs. All dogs registered with Therapy Dogs of Vermont. Call 878-4918 to pre-register for individual sessions. 

Pajama Story Time: Monday, January 12, 6:30 pm.  Bring kids in PJs with their favorite stuffed animal for stories, a craft and a bedtime snack. Presented by Building Bright Futures and Dorothy Alling Memorial Library.

Today we celebrated the forest!  We have been learning a lot about forest life, types of trees and the animals that depend on and live in forests.  Today we brought in our own forest animal and ate a special lunch in our classroom!

This morning we had an opportunity to create and design our very own 3 D house.  We had lots of wonderful parents who volunteered their time and the supplies we needed!  3 Dimensional houses have lots of height and width.  We each had our very own ideas about what to create.

We had an amazing Skype session this morning from a real forester in Colorado.  Our forester works in Yellowstone National Park!  We learned a lot about the different types of animals and their adaptations!

Today we began to create code!  We are celebrating the Hour of Code! Coding is really fun.  We connected coding with giving directions of "how to" do something.  We also explored Daisy The Dinosaur on the iPads.

This afternoon my students along with some awesome parent volunteers were able to walk over 2 wagons of food to the Williston Food Shelf!  We were so happy to help out others in our community.  We were able to deliver our food and also learn about the food shelf and how important a food shelf is in a community. Smart Blog On Education: One Project At A Time!

Creating Forest Animals!


This morning we created our own rabbit!  We used newspaper, tape and paper mache! We also created our own scientific drawings of forest animals too!  Our classroom is going to have lots of wonderful forest work to see very soon!

Creating Science Journals: Exploration Is Important!


Today a couple of my students shared their own science journals that they created during their exploration time.  Exploration time is play. It is a time when students have an opportunity to explore and create ideas they are interested in and learning about. So proud of these two scientists!

This morning we had Laurie Gunn visit Kindergarten!  She volunteers for COTS! We learned a lot about how people become homeless and need to stay in a shelter.  We also learned that we can support COTS by walking in May, in Burlington to raise money for all the people that need to stay in a shelter.  We learned a lot! We also talked a lot about the many things that we re grateful for too.  We have a special tree in our school where we can share what we are grateful for.

The Dorothy Alling Library Visits

This afternoon Ms. Jill visited us.  She is a librarian at the Dorothy Alling  Library.  She red us a wonderful story about the forest.  The story is: Over There. Today your child will be coming home with a packet of information about "how to" get a library card.  Please fill out and return to Kindergarten on Monday.  Click here for the website!  They have lots of great family activities!

Squishy Circuits!

This morning we learned "how to" make a circuit! A circuit travels in a circle.  You need insulating and conducting dough to make it work.  You also need a battery pack too!  We had fun creating caterpillars that lit up!  Thanks so much to Ms. Patti for teaching us about squishy circuits!

Belly Breathing!

This morning we watched a special YouTube video created by Sesame Street about Belly Breathing!  Belly breathing helps us take a break, refocus and change our thinking!  Our special breathing balls are fun to use too! Here is the video!

Thanks So Much To AT&T and DonorsChoose!

We had an awesome week in Kindergarten! We were able to meet the people who supported our Engineering Project we posted on DonorsChoose! It was really wonderful. We were able to collaborate together and use lots of different tools to help us create things.

Today we enjoyed a special trip to the Land of Pumpkins.  We learned about the different types of seeds, pumpkins and the things pumpkins need to grow.  We also enjoyed weaving our way through a corn maze as we learned special tips about cows!

Making A Difference In Kindergarten!

Respect Inside and Outside of Kindergarten!

At ABS this week our whole school is focusing on the idea of respect!  We are thinking of how we can be respectful inside and outside of our classroom.  Every time we are respectful we get a green buzzy!  We also learned a lot from this YouTube video too!

Part of our DonnorsChoose project provided us with a variety of things to "tinker" with and create with.  We enjoy collaborating with our friends using these materials.  This is a great way we can begin to take turns, be flexible in our ideas and design things together.

A Project Based Learning Opportunity In Kindergarten!

Mrs. Tatlock introduced us to Kelso's wheel! I sent this home last Friday in your child's Friday Folder. Kelso's Wheel is where we look to decide on "how to" solve problems and if they are big or small!

Breathing In and Breathing Out!

Today we practiced using our new breathing balls! When we need a break, get frustrated or want to breathe, we use our special breathing spheres! Here is a video of what it sounds like! Thaks Mrs. Tatlock for teaching us about belly breathing!
