This morning Mrs. Birdsall visited Kindergarten for another lesson about digital citizenship. She read a book called; "Hello, Hello" by, Matthew Cordell. It is a story about the importance of balance when we are using digital tools. The story demonstrated how important it is to look up and notice what is around yoyo. We want to make sure that we use digital tools to enhance and enrich learning, but when we are with people, we want to be sure to look at them and talk to them face to face.

It was a wonderful afternoon to visit the apple orchard.  We were able to pick apples, learn "how to" make cider and enjoy a tractor ride through the orchard.  Thanks so much to the Williston FAP for this experience and the many parents who volunteered their time.

Morning Meeting

Morning meeting is a wonderful opportunity for us to gather each morning as a caring, learning community.  We greet each other, share, "Tweet" what we notice and what we have questions about, do a group activity and talk about the day.  Ms. Sylvan brings her ukulele in to sing with us.  We greet each other in song!

The OK Book

Today we read a wonderful story called; "The OK Book".  This is a wonderful story about how we are all okay and can do many different things and how it is okay!  We created our own OK book too!  We look forward to sharing what we are okay with, with you.

Imagination Foundation: #Cardboardchallenge

3 Billy Goats Gruff!

Today we read a story about the 3 billy goats.  Then we were able to act the story out using puppets and also our Smartboard!  As our project for the Imagination Foundation we are creating a bridge for our Billy Goats!

Today Ms. Birdsall visited Kindergarten.  She helped us create our identities.  We always want to be safe while online so we never use our real photo with our name.  She showed us 'how to" upload our identity to our Kidblogs!

Wednesday in the Woods

What a beautiful afternoon we had today outside.  We were able to create a journal entry in our scientific journals, go on a hike and we also made so many observations...

We noticed:
shadows are made with the sun
snakes move very fast
trees provide shade and are nice to rest on
numbers can make a numerical way of writing the date
scientists write the date on all their journals entries so they can notice change over time
the sun makes us hot and we need to drink lots of water

Today we collaborated on our Kidblogs, learned "how to" write the word day, learned a new way to say hello in a different language, created our global postcard, shared and reflected on what we are proud of.  We also explored Bee Bots and had our first guest reader!

Creating Scientific Drawings

This morning everyone created their first scientific drawing!  This was so exciting.  As a scientist we learned that we want to use a pencil to sketch what we see, label an important idea and color in what we want people to notice.  Here is are our designs.  Enjoy!

"How To" Be Safe Online

This morning Mrs. Birdsall visited Kindergarten.  She helped us explore "how to" be safe online using commonsense media.  Look here to see the video we watched.
Here are the 3 things we always need to think about whenever we are online:
1. Ask your parents first.
2. Talk to people you know.
3. Go to places that are "just right" for you.

Thought Bubbles!

This afternoon Ms. S. came to Kindergarten to teach us about thought bubbles.  Thought bubbles let us show how we feel in our brain and heart.  We also created our own.

Everyday we have a special word we think about to help us explore learning inside and out of Kindergarten.  Today our word is Collaboration!

When we shared our ideas of what we think collaboration is, this is what we shared:

Being Safe, Kind and Responsible Online

This morning Mrs. Birdsall came to Kindergarten to explore "how to" be safe when we are online and when we use digital tools.

Wednesday in the Woods!

Today we had a wonderful time exploring outside.  Wednesday in the Woods is an opportunity for us to explore nature, make connections and talk about the patterns we see.  Today we played an outside game...  then we found our "sit spot" and had a snack.  Later we collaborated and make a campfire and shelters.

On Friday thanks to many wonderful parent volunteers we were able to paint the world.  This is important because as we begin to connect and have conversations globally we will be able to see where people are and how we are connecting.

 

Aprons!

We also created our very own aprons too!  We will be using these when we visit the Art room and we are involved with projects in Kindergarten!
