HuggAPlanet Visits Kindergarten!

Today Robert from Hugg A Planet visited Kindergarten.  He share virtue cards with us and talked about what virtue is.  We learned that a virtue is something specific abut you as a person.  Some of our virtues are happy, positive, collaborative and we also persevere.
Robert has also spoke at the United Nations about taking care of the world.  We were super proud to share the things we are doing in Kindergarten!

Today we had a wonderful time visiting the Williston Fire Station.  One of the most important things the fire fighters spoke to us about was having a family plan and to practice having a family fire drill at home so everyone knows what to do in case of a fire.

Math Dyads @vermontkkids123

Today we explored using a math dyad today when thinking mathematically.  We begin by taking Private Reasoning Time to think about the question.  Then we turn and talk to a partner.  This is helpful because we also practice the Math Habit of Mind, Listen To Understand.

We are exploring patterns and thinking about what makes a pattern a pattern.

This afternoon we were able to sort all the colorful leaves in different ways. We sorted the leaves by color, small, large, pointy, smooth and rough. Thanks so much for all the leaves.  We noticed that we had more deciduous leaves then coniferous.

Today we explored books and made noticing's of the features.  We noticed books have words or text and that all words have spaces after them. We noticed some punctuation also when we were reading.  As writers we are exploring how to use letters, words and pictures to tell a story.

Today in Kindergarten....

What a wonderful morning we had today. Some children collaborated in the block area, others created useful contraptions with tinker toys while others created scientific drawings of worms.  Some of the children today explored writing sentences using their invented writing.  Wow!  This is the beginning of writing in Kindergarten, using symbols, letters and drawings to convey a message.
A few students are exploring how to collaborate and help each other post what is important to them on their Seesaw journals too.

Kelso's Choice

Today Ms. S. visited Kindergarten.  She introduced us to Kelso's Choice.  Kelso is a frog who needs help solving problems.  So he comes up with lots of strategies/choices of how he can solve a problem.  I will send home a copy of Kelso's choice on Friday.

We have Kelso's choice in our block area to help remind us of all the ways we can solve problems in a peaceful way.
