Global Goals in Kindergarten

We received lots of new books today that support the Global Goals For Sustainability.  The books were given to us through the generosity of others globally.  The stories are all unique, come from different parts of the world and share valuable stories around the goals.  We are reading and responding to the books with conversation and writing.

We sorted trash this morning.  We discovered that if we put things in their right spot when we are through with them we are helping the environment and being responsible global goal keepers of the world.

This afternoon we snowshoed outdoors.  We hiked up a hill and looked around trying to find animal tracks.  Some of the animal tracks we found were; squirrel, dog, rabbit and we think a deer track! We also noticed that we stayed on top of the snow today with our shoes because the snow was frozen.

Word Detectives!

During our morning meeting as we read the morning message we are exploring what word detectives do.  Word detectives look for words that need to be changed, letters that need to be either lower case or upper case and sometimes we even need to change numbers.

Exploring the Outdoors and Zero Hunger

We enjoyed a great afternoon of snowshoeing.  We noticed that our snowshoes kept us on top of the snow.  We noticed bird feeders too.  Playing outside gives us an opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise our muscles.  We feel stronger and refreshed when we return to Kindergarten.

Zero Hunger
Today we created our favorite character from Maddi's Fridge.  We also created a special wall outside of our classroom highlighting Zero Hunger and what we can do to help keep everyone's fridge full.

A Former @vermontkkid123 Visits Kindergarten!

This morning we had a visit from a former student.  She lives in Arizona and talked to us about what school life is like where she lives.
She shared that they have animal patrol at her school because they have tarantulas and rattlesnakes.  They walk outside to go to their classes.
She shared her YouTube channel with us that she and her parents created when she was in Kindergarten.  She started the channel as a way to share her love for music.  This way people could watch her play and leave her compliments about her playing. She has become an amazing piano player!

Zero Hunger Global Goal #2

 Maddi's Fridge
Today we read a wonderful story about hunger.  The story was about 2 young children who met while playing in a park.  They visit each other's houses and discover that their refrigerator's do not look the same.  The story is a wonderful way to talk about what is in a fridge and what can we do to make sure all fridges have healthy food.  The children responded to the story in a writing response and are creating a blog post on their Kidblog posts about Zero Hunger, Global Goal #2.
The Williston Food Shelf will be visiting us this month as well as other local businesses to talk about what they are doing for the community to support everyone having a full fridge.
