October 27th

Today we read another Global Goal book about Global Goal 16, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

The story reminded us about how important it is to help others and be kind.  Friends are so important and help us learn about how to be kind and take care of ourselves and others.

We are working hard on finishing up our tree projects that will be on display in the school later this week. I will take photos and add to our Google Photos.

Look here to see a video we watched about Climate Action this morning.
Today we started writing in our Global Goal books. We are thinking about how we can be less wasteful. We have also been talking a lot about how we can support Global Goal 3. By keeping social distance from others and wearing a mask we are being healthy.

As writer's and reader's we are exploring how to create words while sounding out words and then writing the sounds we hear. This helps us begin to think about how words sound and what letters are used to create words. Our illustrations are detailed, colorful and all tell a very important story about what we care about.

October 22nd

Today we read another wonderful story about the 3 R's. The story reminded us of how important it is to think about ways we can create less waste. This supports the Global Goals too!

Look here to see photos from today.

We continue to think about ways we can create less waste to reduce what we use each day.

Today Mr. E. shared beautiful photographs of things we might see in nature. Today you will create numbers in nature with what you find outside where you live.

Today's Inquiry Challenge:

Tuesday, October 20, 2020

October 20th

Today we explored more wonderings that we have about where things are in the world. This is part of the ASK phase of the Geo-Inquiry Process. Through developing our wonderings we begin to explore how we can help care for the things in the world that are important to us.

Look here to see photos from today.

How many Maple leaves tall are you? We will collect data about our height and then revisit throughout the year to see how we have grown. We are thinking about if the numbers will get larger or smaller.

October 19th

Today we began exploring and thinking about the ASK phase in the Geo-Inquiry Process. This process helps us explore where things are in the natural world, how they got there, and why it is important for us to care.

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we thought about where trees are at our school and how they got there.

Today we explored using a math dyad to help us explore new strategies to help us think about how we solve problems.

October 15th

Today we read more non fiction and informational books about trees and leaves. We explored what a deciduous and a coniferous tree is and how we can tell the difference. We discovered that all trees need these things to grow no matter where in the world they grow.
Trees Need:
a seed
soil
sunlight
water
someone to care

As readers and writers we created an accordion book. Our book tells the story of the life of an Oak Tree.

Today Recycle Rhonda helps us explore recycling.  Have a great day exploring at home. The inquiry challenge is below.

October 13th

Today we explored tree bark. We discovered that bark can feel differently, has different colors, and some bark even falls off trees.

Today we explored the life cycle of an Oak tree too. We are creating a life cycle book to share what we learned about how an Oak tree grows.

Look here to see photos from today.

October 12th

Today we explored leaves. We discovered that leaves come in many different colors, shapes, and sizes. Leaves provide homes for some living things and help a tree grow by providing food and air.

When you look at a leaf it can help you learn about what types of tree it is.

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we learned about animals from Skype A Scientist Gabriella who works at Harvard. She introduced us to two of her friends, Griffin and Athena. She studies different animals and their behavior.

Today we read many wonderful books about trees. As we begin our exploration of forest life we are examining the different features of trees, what they need to grow, ways we can help sustain tree life, and the other animals that depend on trees as their habitat.

We created ways we can care for the world. This list will grow together this year as we grow as a caring community of explorers. Look here to see photos from today.

Today we visited the Allen Brook Trail. We are exploring the land around us and under our feet. This connects to some of the Global Goals.

We created scientific drawings of an acorn and looked closely at tree bark, leaves, and seeds.

Look here to see photos from today.

We explored a new math app that helps us think about shapes and their different attributes. Pattern Shapes is free and you can go here to get. Ms. Wilson visited kindergarten today and taught us about whiteboard. It is a fun tool that helps us with our learning. We will be exploring again soon.
