Our First Celebration of Learning!
This morning we had our first celebration of learning. The children were able to share all of their projects related to our life studies theme on life cycles. The children did a wonderful job creating and designing their own projects to show what they learned during our study of life cycles. Wonderful!

Estimation!
When we come into Kindergarten in the morning we sign in and then we go to find our estimation jar! We examine the jar and make an estimate! When we make estimates we do not count the objects, but make a guess as to how many are in the estimation jar! This helps us become familiar with numbers. After we make an estimation we count out the objects. This is another great way to show how we are thinking mathematically.

Signing In, In Kindergarten!
One of our routines in the morning is to sign in. This helps us recognize our name as well as letting others know we are here in kindergarten! Today we began signing in using a sign in sheet. Wow! This is very exciting because we now get to write our first name using one upper case letter only! Everyone did a great job!
Reading Buddies!
On Friday we met our reading buddies. It was lots of fun. We had a chance to introduce ourselves, share our familiar stories and also share our non fiction writing! Phew! Our reading buddies made us a welcome card!
This is a great example of how we collaborate at our school. This is a great opportunity for independent readers and non readers to share the love of reading as well as practice our own literacy skills.

Working With Letters and Sounds!
In kindergarten we spend a lot of time doing lots of hands on activities that reinforce our learning. This morning we used the SMARTboard to help us learn our letters and sounds! The activity is both interactive and fun! Be sure to ask your child about it.

"Echo Time"
This morning the children did a great job practicing the letters, sounds and key words of the "Echo Alphabet"! Wow! Your children are making great progress. I am so proud of everyone. After we chanted the ABC's, each child received their very own dictation booklet. This booklet is a place where your child can show me what they know about letters and sounds. Everyday I make a sound and ask your child to print the letter of the sound in their booklet. Sometimes your child will write the sound they hear at the beginning or end of a word too!

Our Visit To The Williston Fire Station!
This afternoon we walked to the fire station in recognition of National Fire Safety Week. The children enjoyed the tour, seeing all the different types of fire engines, seeing a firefighter in their uniform and of course watching a fire fighter slide down the pole.
The fire fighters told us how important it is to remember these steps if we are ever in a fire: stop, drop, cover and roll!

What is Echo Time Look Like in Kindergarten?
Echo Time is an opportunity for us to learn the alphabet. We have a fun way of doing this in Kindergarten. The children learn the letter name, key word and sound to help us become fluent with the alphabet. In the pictures you will see the "Echo Family" which leaves in a nest in our classroom. The children all have an opportunity to use the puppets to help us learn the alphabet. The SMARTboard is also an amazing tool as it has a special notebook page that we can use to interact with the letters! In one of the photos you will see the leader of the day operating the notebook page to help us learn our alphabet.
