Today we created and designed our own boat as part of a STEM challenge. The goal was to create a boat that would float holding 1 unifix cube and cross over the wide river just like the gingerbread boy tried to do in the story.
This type of challenge explores collaboration, conversation, curiosity, and creativity. The children did a wonderful job.
Welcome to our classroom blog! Our blog is like a journal, a never ending account and record of all the exciting adventures we experience in Kindergarten. We are an enthusiastic group of people who care about each other and the world. We hope you enjoy reading, listening and watching what we do!

This afternoon we went on a nature walk up a huge hill. We were using the skill of observation to notice living things in nature
Exploring nature is a wonderful way to get fresh air and we also support 2 global goals.

We are exploring reading strategies called; "Super Powers" during our literacy time. These reading strategies help us become stronger readers. Your child will be coming home with Just Right Books on Friday and a reading bag. Please read with your child and have them read to you! Keep the reading strategy book at home to use as a guide when you read with your child. The book(s) and book bag come back on Monday.
As writers we are reflecting on what we know about the forest. The children are doing a wonderful job applying their reading strategies as they write too!

This morning the children were amazing. They showed how flexible they can be and how patient they were also. We connected with our friends in Ghana this morning to share the ways we like to play.
This exchange helped us..
1. Think about perspective
2. Use oral language to share our ideas clearly
3. take turns and be patient
4. Listen to another perspective and think about how this might be done in Vermont
5. Supported our literacy skills with our writing and creating clear illustrations with a clear meaning
6. Empathy.. thinking about what it is like for others
7. Being kind and sharing our feelings in a kind, safe, and positive way.
8. Practice and making a direct connection with how technology can be used to enhance and enrich our conversations
9. friendship

During math workshop time we had fun creating different ways to make numbers, adding different numbers to get 10 and subitizing to see which number is less, more, or equal too. Math is a lot of fun because we get to use lots of strategies as mathematicians.
As readers and writers, we are creating pattern books about rabbits. We are noticing patterns of words in boos when we read and write. We continue to reflect on all of the things we are learning about the natural world and connecting our learning to the global goals.
We enjoyed meeting and listening to the author John Churchman and his dog read and share ideas about being an author.
