Learning From Home:Day 11

Today we are thinking about what types of animals we might find on our map. Today think about the map you made and add drawings of the animals that might be found there. I added my map below for you to see.

Look here for the National Geographic Resource

What does your world look like? After looking at examples of maps and the world everyone created their interpretation of the world.

Learning From Home: Day 10

Today's challenge is to draw a picture of the world! Share your drawing with someone at home and talk about it. Add labels if you want too.
The children have been exploring what it is like to be a cartographer. I am sharing some of the maps that the children have created. I am noticing so many connections with math, inquiry, science, and literacy.

We continue to think about Global Goals #3 and #15.

Be sure to check out this amazing resource that National Geographic shared about the different types of maps and how maps can give us lots of information about the land.

Learning From Home:Day 9

Today we are exploring Global Goal 15, Life On Land.
1. As an explorer stand in 1 place and look far off in one direction. Find a place to observe. How many steps did it take to get there? What do you notice?
2. As a cartographer draw a map of you from where you started and where you ended up.
3. As a scientist draw and label your map. Share!

Learning From Home: Day 8

Exploring the land.

This is what I observed...

Use your skill of observation and enjoy being curious!
Create a drawing of the geography and anything else you see. I used a marker and a piece of cardboard to create my drawing.

Today while you are outside, look around at the land and the geography of where you are. Use your skill of observation to help you think about these ideas:
1. Is the land flat? Do you see a hill?
2. Why are some trees grouped together?
3. Is the sun shining everywhere? Why or why not?
4. When you walk up an incline or a small hill is it easier to walk up or harder?
5. Do you notice any trees? What kind are they? Deciduous? Coniferous?
6. How can you help take care of what you are seeing?
Think about how these experiences support Global Goals.

Learning From Home: Day 7

Today while I was outside I noticed many things in nature that had patterns.

Today I found many things for my nature bag. I created a pattern with some of the things I found. Can you see the patterns in the photos? Share what you notice with someone at home.

Learning From Home: Day 6

Looking for print and creating where you are:

Using your skill of observation...
See if you can find print in your house, outside, on signs, in nature, or anywhere! Print can be words, numbers, or symbols!

Learning From Home:Day 5

Today while I was outside I was observing all the different surfaces that I walk on. I was thinking about the following...
Why do we have so many surfaces?
How are the surfaces made? Where do they come from?
I wonder why some surfaces have patterns...
What are you noticing when you go outside? What is under your feet?

Learning From Home: Day 4

Today on my walk I found the letter V that was made by 2 birch trees in our yard. As we walked up the hill I noticed a sign and discovered some words that we have been working on in kindergarten. Remember how we find sight words in our morning message? Maybe you can find words you know in the signs you see. Please share whatever you find.

On Seesaw you can share what the weather is like where you live.

Learning From Home: Day 3

Hello Everyone!
Today on my walk with my family we noticed many things. I wanted to share some of them with you.
In one of the photos look closely and see if you notice something that does not belong there. We did not see a lot of waste, but this made me think about what impact this trash might have on living things.

Later I stopped to take a video of Lake Champlain. Can you hear the wind? I was thinking about ways the wind can impact land and water. What are you thinking? Is it windy where you live?

Later on the road, I found this!  A stick that looks like the letter Y. Maybe when you are outdoors you can look for things in nature that are shaped like letters and numbers. Please let me know what you find.

Learning From Home: Days 1 & 2

Hello Everyone!
I am so excited to be sharing some photos of my time outside with you. In the photos see if you see any of these areas around where you live.
Every day Mr. Davison and I walk along Lake Champlain with our dog, Bea. Yesterday we observed many ducks and geese. They had fun tipping into the water looking for fish to eat. We also noticed that the ice is gone. I am curious if any of you have any ice or snow in your yard. I am sending you a video now. I will check in again tomorrow!

Day 117: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.
We will be exploring the weather. This would be a great idea for home. Your child/children could record the weather each day.
While outside look for things in nature and talk about why they are there.

We will be reading and exploring books by Kimberly & James Dean. You can find many of these books online, YouTube to share at home. Here is a link to a site for additional resources.

Day 116: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from the day.
Today we explored animals that live on the continent of Africa. We talked about the special adaptations that some of these animals have in order to live in such a warm and dry climate.

Day 115: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.
Today we explored our new books thanks to DonorsChoose. We are making lots of connections as explorers and geographers about the world around us.
We are creating maps to help us locate where specific animals live in the Arctic and Africa!

Day 114: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from this morning.

Today we started thinking about 2 continents in the world that are in different places and have different climates. Stay tuned as we compare and contrast the geography of these 2 places.
We read some wonderful stories today. Be sure to look for your child's Seesaw Post of their How-To writing.

Day 113: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

We are writing "How To" stories about many different topics. "How To" stories are fun and easy to write. The stories tell someone "How To" do something.

We decided that "How To" Stories need the following things:

1. a title
2. words
3. illustration
4. numbers
