Today we began our exploration of Antarctica, the ice continent. The children created maps of the different animals that live on land and below the water.

This unique continent has very cold temperatures and severe weather. We are exploring the ice and how important it is for the rest of the world. Just by creating less waste and reusing materials, we can help sustain the habitats for the penguins and other creatures.

Today while we were snowshoeing we imaged how a penguin might walk in the snow. We tried creating our own penguin waddle.

The story we read helped us think about what the animals did when the world was quiet and people were staying home.

Today we learned a new song to help us think about the special features that Antarctica has and what animals live there.

Today we explored the Arctic Tern and the Puffin. Both of these birds have unique features and special ways to adapt to their habitat. Look here to listen to the Arctic Tern.

We explored using dominoes as a way to create different number equations too.

The children created another scientific drawing for our Arctic posters which will be coming home on Friday.

Many of the arctic animals have many of the same adaptations and physical features.

Today we explored Arctic babies and the Narwhal. It was so interesting to learn about how young arctic babies can adapt and survive in the very cold temperatures of the arctic.

We created posters that reflect Arctic animals too.

Today we explored the walrus.

We created scientific drawings and had a great conversation about some of the unique adaptations that a walrus has so it can live in the arctic.

We collaborated as cartographers today and created maps of the north pole and highlighted the places where we think you might find them if you were to visit the north pole.

Today we explored seals and how they survive in the arctic. Seals have lots of blubber to keep them warm and we learned that seals are different sizes and colors.

The children are working on recognizing, using, creating, and writing teen numbers.

Today we used explore.org to explore and observe arctic animals in their natural habitat.

We created beautiful covers for our Arctic Animals drawings too.

Today we were cartographers and created our own maps of where we might find Arctic animals if we visited the North Pole.

Today we explored how to write number equations and what the symbols, =,+ mean.

Today we explored the North Pole and learned about the animals that live there. Mystery Science Here

We are becoming cartographers this week too. We are making a map of the Arctic and Antarctica to help us explore the animals that live there and their habitats and special adaptations.

Some places in the world have outdoor recess when it is below 0!
We explored snow today and thought about why snow is white. Thanks to Mystery Science (here), we learned a lot.

Today we made connections with this wonderful story. We noticed that the bears have many unique features. We are thinking they have these features because of where they live. They like the cold weather and the snow.

Today we explored the coldest place on earth thanks to Mystery Science. Look here.
