Fundations Time In Kindergarten With The Echo Family!

Today we practiced writing the lower case letters t, b and f! Baby Echo helped us with the Echo Alphabet too! We had lots of fun and did some amazing writing!

Scientific Drawing!

This morning during our Reader's and Writer's workshop time the children enjoyed a story called, "The Honey Makers" by, Gail Gibbons. The children made text to text connections with the story and other texts we have read by Gail Gibbons too! Amazing! The children began drawing their first scientific drawing of a honeybee! Wow! The work is truly wonderful. I amazed daily at how talented your children are. We use a genius tool to help us, a SMARTboard! We were able to enlarge a honeybee, label parts that we felt were important and the children even came up to interact with the body parts! Sometimes we draw, capture, enlarge, rotate and even highlight our ideas on the SMARTboard. So fun!

Writer's Workshop!

Today we finished up our first writing project! The children created their own book about apples. We have been talking a lot about what authors do when they write. Some of the strategies we are practicing are; drawing pictures with details, writing letters and symbols that label our pictures. We also talk a lot about how our pictures tell stories. I hope you enjoy watching and listening to what the children do during a writing time.

I also thought you would enjoy listening to a child "read" a familiar story during our rest time. This is what children do after we read a story many times. A great way to practice what readers do!

Making Connections in Literacy and Math!

The children make lots of connections throughout the day! During math time we are learning about how we can think mathematically. The children are learning "How To" think mathematically by making mathematical connections. I hope you enjoy watching and listening to what this looks and sounds like through the eyes of 5 and 6 year old children. Amazing! Some of the great things that young children do is make connections! They seem to make connections easily and are so excited to share the connections they make. In literacy we are working on making connections. The 2 connections we are learning about are text to self and text to text connections. The children make these connections throughout the day with all the books that we read.

Practicing Our Numbers!

The children have been doing a wonderful job learning how to hold their pencil while they practice writing their numbers. I am very proud of all the great writing that I am seeing in Kindergarten. We will continue to work on our numbers 1-10 for a couple more weeks.

Dot Day!

Yesterday we enjoyed celebrating Dots! We created dots using different media tools. We also used our bodies to make dots too! When we arrived in Kindergarten we found 100 dots scattered throughout the classroom. We had fun picking them up and counting them.
Thanks so much for the Dot Cookies!

Theme Wall In Kindergarten!

This week we began creating a theme wall. A theme wall is a place where we can design and create the learning that is happening in Kindergarten that has a non fiction focus. The wall contains artwork, labels and some students even created labels of their own during our Writer's Workshop time. Wow! The wall will be up all year long and will change with the seasons and our theme studies. Keep watching for the changes!

New Faces In Kindergarten!

We are so lucky to have 2 new faces in Kindergarten! Miss Jessica and Miss Victoria are students at Champlain College in Burlington. They will be with us all day every Tuesday and Thursday until December 9th. Welcome!

Reader's Workshop Live!

I hope you enjoy listening and watching to what we do during our Reader's Workshop time!

Reader's Workshop!

Wow! Today we had our first Reader's Workshop. It went so well. The children worked in a partnership. During our Reader's Workshop time we each have our own reading bin with familiar books. We read side by side with our reading partner. We look at the pictures in our books to help us tell the story! Everyone did a great job!

Technology Lab!

Today we visited the technology lab. We practiced logging on and off the computer. We can now do this all by ourselves! Wow! Our password and username is either CATS/CATS OR DOGS/DOGS. Afterwards we logged onto a great computer program called,"Type To Learn Jr." This is a great program which helps us learn our letters. We also learn about what hand to use when typing.

Columns and Rows!

This morning we created butterflies and caterpillars on our SMARTboard. We counted them and then we put them in groups. Great Fun! Later we learned about how we could create a row of caterpillars and then a column of butterflies! What fun we had experimenting with these math concepts. Be sure to ask your child to show you how they know the difference!(hint: we used our arms)

A Great Cleaning Up Song!

While cleaning up the children all started singing a clean up song! It was a new song for me! Now we will sing it every time we clean up! Thanks everyone!

Lunch Time!

We eat lunch everyday in the cafeteria.
Snack time happens twice a day in Kindergarten. We are careful to eat the healthy lunches that our families pack us. We use great manners as well while we eat at our tables. One of the children said today that it was just like home!

Creating Our Own Monarch Caterpillar!

This morning we began to create and design our own Monarch caterpillars. We are reusing materials and sharing as well with each other. The children have been doing a wonderful job of sharing and helping each other. We are using our "Bee" language to help us. Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible.

The children have also each created their own apron to use for the many projects we do in Kindergarten. Lots of fun!

Our First Visit To The Garden!

We took a walk this morning to our school garden. We saw many types of plants and recognized some. We also saw where we put our compost every day! This helps keep the soil healthy.
