Day 95: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we read a great story about the polar bear.
Polar bears can hear and smell signs of animals for miles away.

We created scientific drawings of Starfish too! We learned that when the ocean gets too warm the starfish die because they do not do well in warm water. We promise to try not to create too much waste to help keep their habitat healthy.

Day 94: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we read a story about penguins who wear sweaters.
The story reminded us about what we can do if we make a mistake. We think it is important to advocate to help keep animal habitats clean and safe.
This book also reminded us about Global Goal #14 and #15

Day 93: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

Today Ms. Cici read us a great story about why we need sharks. Afterwards we had an opportunity to write a reflection about why we need sharks.

Day 92: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we read 2 new stories about penguins. We began making observations about what special features penguins have. We are thinking that their features are unique to whee they live so they can survive.

We wrote about what we noticed about the ship traveling to Antarctica.

Day 91: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

We went snowshoeing this morning. While we were snowshoeing the children made connections with our exploration of the Arctic. Natural collaboration and problem solving happening when getting our snowshoes on and off. Being outside in the fresh air helped us support Global Goal # Good Health and Well Being.

We explored the life of a starfish and created amazing, detailed and colorful scientific drawings.

Day 90: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we began creating a polar bear . We have been learning a lot about polar bears and penguins. They are both animals that live in Antartica and the scientists near the Weddell Sea are learning a lot about them. On Friday we have a live video conference with a marine biologist from the expedition.

We are enjoying using AirServer to help us with our math thinking. This way we can remotely access what is on the iPad. Our Smartboard is a great tool to help us explore different number combinations too!

Day 89: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we read another story by Kathryn Otoshi. The story: Two. It was a wonderful story about that connected lots of numeracy skills with numbers. The other important message we connected with is to use our voice and speak up about things we have questions about and to have compassion towards others who may need another try.
Having empathy is important. When people make mistakes, we forgive them and help them learn.

We have 3 new faces in kindergarten. Ms. Kelly, Ms. Cici, and Ms. Angela. They are from UVM and Champlain College. We are so happy to be learning alongside them.

Day 88: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we read a story called One. The story reminds us about the importance of using our voice when something is happening to us or others that is unkind.

We think kindness is important because..
* we feel happy
*others want to help others feel happy
*we are in the green zone
* trying new ideas helps us
* all people matter
*everyone is a friend in kindergarten
Today we worked on creating and designing our mural of Life Below and Above Water. Our underwater sea collages are full of what we understand about ocean life.

Day 86: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we reread a story called: All Are Welcome. This reminds us that no matter who you are or where you are from or what you look like, you are welcome in kindergarten. This connects to the upcoming Special Day we recognize, Martin Luther King Day.
Today we created different ways of making numbers, practiced writing teen numbers, and interacted with our Smartboard to make different number combinations.

We created blue oceans for our mural we are designing too!

Day 85

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we read a wonderful story about a water princess. We made lots of connections to a couple of the global goals.

Everyone in the world needs healthy clean water because..
* water keeps us from getting thirsty
* water helps everything grow
* water gives us energy
*when we are hot we can drink anytime we want to. Not everyone has water available to them.
* water helps animals grow
*plants need water so we can eat them and enjoy them
* water is all over the world
*oceans, seas, rivers, and lakes need water to feed animals and the land.

Day 84: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

We read a wonderful story about the poles. This was a great opportunity to think about the climate and what animal life lives in the north and south pole.

Today we used AirServer to look at RazKids. We are learning how to write all of our teen numbers too.

We have been working on our non-fiction books about polar bears and penguins. This has been a great connection with the Weddell Sea Exploration as we learn more about the animals that live on land near the Weddell Sea.

Day 79: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

We are working on our wonderings and noticings about the Weddell Sea Exploration too! The children are doing a wonderful job applying the reading strategies they are learning to sound out the words they need!

We are exploring the life of polar bears and penguins. We are observing polar bears at: https://explore.org/ Today we created drawings of polar bears.

Day 79

Look here to see photos from today.

We read a wonderful story about Antarctica. The story connected with our learning about the Weddell Exploration. We learned that Weddell Seals live in the Weddell Sea. They are a predator of the penguins.

We used Skype this morning to speak to scientist Matt who lives in South Carolina. He shared that the Whale Shark is the largest fish. On Friday we used GoogleHangout to connect with our friends in Shelburne to share how we are exploring Global Goal #14 Life Below Water.

We learned a new song about Antarctica too! Here

Day 76

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we explored using PebbleGo and Raz Kids. Both of these Apps are helping us with our reading and increasing our knowledge about animals that live below the water.

We explored a new App today called NumberRak. We used the App to help us create different ways of making numbers 1-10. It is free on the App Store. Look Here
We are exploring lots of new literacy games that are helping us become stronger readers and writers. The literacy games are in kindergarten thanks to the VermontNEA mini grant program.

Day 75: @vermontkkids123

Look here to see photos from today.

Today we started following the Weddell Sea Exploration! They are scientists traveling to Antarctica. They will be exploring life below and above water on the ice shelf. This is an amazing opportunity.

Please share our padlet, here with anyone you know who might have a photo to post about a sea creature.

We read a wonderful story about what it means to be global.

Some of our ideas..
Being global means..

* treat everyone the same
* be kind and helpful
* it is okay not to get your own way
* people need people
* connecting with the global goals
*being a global goal goal keeper
*living the global goals
*always care about living things
*recycle
*compost
*Tweet your ideas with the world
