Exploring The World of Birds!

Today we began a new theme of study!  Birds!  The children began by looking through a variety of non fiction text, exploring attributes and special features of birds on our Smartboard and some of us created writing about what we already know about birds.  Some of the children brought in their own stuffed bird too!  This is a great way for us to make observations up close of what we notice!

I am so very proud of the writing that the children are engaged with.  I see so much independence, confidence and creativity.  So #grateful to be able to share with all of you!

Ms. Marissa and Dr. Seuss

This morning Ms. Marissa read us a wonderful story by Dr. Seuss. "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish." As we listened to the story we noticed words that rhyme, lots of color and abstract artwork in his illustrations.  We made lots of connections as readers too!

This morning Amy Huntington a local artist and author visited Kindergarten!  She shared how she gets her ideas and the ways she creates her illustrations.  Her visit was possible thanks to a grant from the FAP Group!  As an author she shared that sometimes she starts her new story with an illustration 1st and sometimes she begins with her story!  Click here to see her blog.

Guest Readers In Kindergarten!

I hope you will join us throughout the month of March!  We are celebrating reading!  The children are becoming independent readers and using lots of different strategies to help them decode new words.  This morning we had our first guest reader!  Please email me if you are able to stop by Kindergarten and read us a story! We also use AirServer because we can remotely access programs and images from an iPad.  Skitch helps us enhance what we notice too!

Ms. Mikala!

This morning one of my former students visited Kindergarten!  She spent the morning with us celebrating our new author study of Dr. Seuss.  She is learning to be a teacher and was very interested in how we use technology to enrich our learning.  We had a wonderful day modeling and being mentors to her and each other.
